Declan Kidney has been appointed as the new Director of Sport and Physical Activity at University College Cork.
The former Ireland rugby coach, who previously studied at and played rugby for UCC, will take up the position at the Cork City university from the start of the upcoming academic year.
Kidney parted company with the IRFU in April after a largely unsuccessful Six Nations campaign, which included shock defeats to Scotland and Italy, despite beating championship winners Wales.
Ireland did, however, enjoy plenty of success under Kidney's five-year tenure, most notably the 2009 Six Nations Grand Slam victory.
Kidney was also named IRB Coach of the Year in 2009, the only northern hemisphere coach to win the award since England's Clive Woodward in 2003.
The Munster man also led his home province to two Heineken Cup titles in 2006 and 2008.
Speaking about his new role, Kidney said: "I am really looking forward to working with the staff in the Department of Sport and Physical Activity, and to learn from the coaches and managers of the 60 Clubs in UCC.
"I firmly believe in a holistic approach to education and see physical activity, be it at the highest elite level or participating just for fun, to be an integral part of this experience."
