Ted Veale sets sights on Ebor

Cheltenham Festival winner Ted Veale is set to make a swift return to action after featuring in a maximum field of 20 declared for Saturday's Betfred Ebor at York.

Tony Martin's gelding was a winner at Bellewstown on Wednesday evening.

He bounced back from a disappointing effort on heavy ground in the Galway Hurdle, and will turn out again quickly under a 4lb penalty.

The William Haggas-trained Sun Central has been left at the head of the weights after stablemate Harris Tweed, El Salvador, Cambourne and Model Pupil were all not declared.

John Holt's Number Theory, David Simcock's Sheikhzayedroad and Michael Stoute's Opinion are all towards the head of the weights.

Another dual purpose Irish-trained challenger is Jessica Harrington's Steps To Freedom, who was just touched off in a valuable handicap at Dundalk on Sunday.

Caravan Rolls On, Bishop Roko, Tiger Cliff and Guarantee have all been declared along with Genzy, who ran well in the Geoffrey Freer last week.

David O'Meara's Tropical Beat and Simcock's second contender No Heretic are still in the mix.

Among those not declared were the Sir Mark Prescott-trained Pallasator and Jonjo O'Neill's Well Sharp.

Ante-post favourite Opinion was handed stall five at the draw with Guarantee, in the same Highclere Thoroughbred Racing ownership, breaking from stall 19.

Godolphin's Handsome Man will be in seven as he aims to give the operation back-to-back wins after Willing Foe's success 12 months ago.

Caravan Rolls On (12), Steps To Freedom (20), Ted Veale (17), Tiger Cliff (18) and No Heretic (15) were all given high draws with Bishop Roko (eight), Montaser (three) and Saptapadi (nine) all breaking from single-figure stalls.

Saptapadi finished fifth in the race two years ago behind former Brian Ellison stablemate Moyenne Cornich but has struggled to recapture his form since returning to Ellison from Australia.
