New Cork City boss John Caulfield is more than pleased with his side's start to the SSE Airtricity League season.

The Leesiders began their campaign by welcoming champions St Patrick's Athletic to Turner's Cross, where they shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw, before a Darren Dennehy header secured a 1-0 win away to Derry City on Sunday last.

Caulfield told RTÉ Sport: "We're thrilled. We'd a very difficult start - Pat's last week, [then] Derry away. I'm delighted with the three points.

"We've a new team, we're battling hard. It's the worst I've ever saw the pitch at the Brandywell. It was very difficult, maybe the [TV] viewers at home couldn't see that but it was difficult, it was very windy. Overall, it was a smashing performance by ourselves."

Meanwhile, Derry City boss Roddy Collins, also taking charge of a new side, was left to lament his side's lack of concentration.

Speaking to Soccer Republic, the former Monaghan United and Athlone Town manager said: "They weren't posing any great threat because the pitch didn't allow for anyone to pose a great threat on the deck so we felt, a set piece, don't switch off for a set piece and unfortunately we did."
