Cody: I didn't believe game was won

Brian Cody said he didn't feel Kilkenny had done enough to beat Galway, even with a 10-point lead under their belt during yesterday's thrilling Leinster Senior Hurling Championship clash in O'Connor Park.

Galway produced a fightback in the final minutes to rescue a second chance against the Cats with two goals from Conor Cooney playing an integral part of the game's thrilling conclusion.

Speaking to RTÉ after the 3-22 to 5-16 draw in Tullamore, Cody said: "You don't ever feel comfortable. A goal in hurling can so quickly change a game. In hurling if you get one goal and something else happens, you get on a bit of a roll.

"A roll happened and that was it. You don't ever presume you're comfortable in a match like that.

"There were some fantastic scores and great periods of play from both teams which is great to see. I think it's a case of everyone looking forward to next Saturday (throw-in 7pm).

"Galway are a top team. They are a team capable of winning the All-Ireland final every year as far as I'm concerned. We have had great battles with them, today was no exception, and no one has any clue how it will go next Saturday.

"There will be recovery and no training done between now and Saturday. It'll be just recovery and preparation."

Managerial counterpart Anthony Cunningham said his team didn't give up in order to secure the replay he believed they deserved.

But he freely admitted it took a bit of fortune to put such a run of scores together.

The Galway supremo added: "We were dead and buried and it happened very, very quickly. Kilkenny turned the screw in the second half, scored 1-02 or 1-03. The next thing they were nine points up.

"That was probably unfair in a reflection of the game. We showed tremendous character to come back. We were lucky to be honest.

"It's only half-time now really. It means nothing until we win the match the next day. Kilkenny will look it as the same way.

"There are huge positives for us. We just kept plugging away. We talked about it half-time. There were openings in the Kilkenny defence.

"No doubt they will work with that the next day. No doubt we'll work on keeping our scores down too.

"We didn't put much emphasis on the Laois performance really. We were training hard and today was our big, big day. We'll look at today's game in the same light as the Laois game in we want to improve on the next game."
