The World Cup final - the last show for for legendary broadcaster Bill O'Herlihy - attracted huge viewing figures on RTÉ Two and online.

Over 857,000 were watching on TV with a further 165,000 streaming the coverage online and mobile.,

The TV coverage peaked at 1,280,600 at one stage during the coverage (10.35pm).

Over 56% of all viewers watching TV from 7.00-11.20pm last night were watching the coverage on RTÉ Two - this is up from 49% for the 2010 World Cup final and 46% for the final in 2006.

The final was the highest-rating match of the World Cup coverage on RTÉ Two and on the RTÉ Player.

There were a total of 2,524,518 streams during the tournament on the RTÉ Player and the World Cup site on RTÉ.ie.

This represented a huge increase on previous tournaments - up from 950,000 streams for Euro 2012 and 700,000 for World Cup 2010.

One in three of the live streams in 2014 came via a mobile device.

The World Cup programmes accounted for over half of all views on the RTÉ Player during the tournament.
