Taghrooda's unbeaten record was brought to an abrupt end as the Aidan O'Brien-trained 8-1 shot Tapestry claimed a shock victory in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks.
Having run out a brilliant winner of the Investec Oaks at Epsom before beating the boys in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot, Taghrooda was all the rage to complete a Group One hat-trick as the 1-5 favourite.
Paul Hanagan bided his time as Volume set a strong pace and all appeared to be going well as Taghrooda loomed ominously towards the front early in the home straight.
However, Ryan Moore had Taghrooda in his sights aboard O'Brien's Irish Oaks runner-up and threw down a strong challenge to the market-leader passing the furlong-marker.
The two settled down to fight it out and it was Tapestry who won the duel by half a length.
Godolphin's Tasaday was a long way back in third.
Hanagan said: "I don't think there were many excuses, she was just beaten by a very good horse.
"We went a nice enough gallop, I got there and I thought it would take a very good one to beat me and I think one did. No excuses."
