Graeme McDowell and Shane Lowry have both been eliminated from the Volvo World Match Play Championship after losing their final pool matches.
Defending champion McDowell was 15 wins from 17 in the tournament after his victory over Alexander Levy on Wednesday but defeat yesterday to Mikko Ilonen meant he had to beat Joost Luiten today to make the last eight.
The Antrim man was three up after eight holes but the Dutchman produced five birdies on a storming back nine to win two up, pulling clear in the final two holes.
Lowry took on Pablo Larrazabal for a place in the quarter-finals and looked well-placed when one up through 13.
However, the Spaniard won the next three holes before sealing victory with a half on 17.
