Meyler eyes return to Hull team

David Meyler does not expect his international experiment at right-back to be replicated with Hull.

Meyler, a central midfielder by preference, has been identified by Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill as an emergency right-back and had an enjoyable couple of games in his new position over the past week.

A 7-0 win over Gibraltar may not have been the most taxing day at the office but he also played his part in the 1-1 draw against world champions Germany.

Meyler is looking for a way back into the Tigers team having struggled for first-team action this season, but does not see full-back as a realistic target.

"I think the manager is quite happy with (Ahmed) Elmohamady and (Liam) Rosenior at right-back," he told Tigers Player ahead of Saturday's trip to Arsenal.

"I don't think I'll ever be playing right-back for him.

"But it's down to myself. I've got two 90 minutes under my belt in the last six days and I'm looking forward to getting back to training and ready to go again.

"That's the same for everyone who's not playing and I missed the last squad.

"It's got to be the player to put yourself back in the manager's plans and make sure you're not forgotten about.

"It's very easy and it happened to a few people here last year.

"I played 30 Premier League games last season and I want to keep going and build on that."
