Rovers deals for Miele and McPhail

Shamrock Rovers continue to strengthen ahead of the new Airtricity Premier Division season but signing former Newcastle United player Brandon Miele.

The 20-year-old midfielder from Tallaght spent four years at Newcastle United, and played for the club's reserve team.

Miele said: "It's brilliant for me to have signed for Shamrock Rovers. It is my local club, I'm from just down the road, so it will be great for all my family to be able to come to see me play.

When I spoke to the manager he explained his ambitions and his style of player, and I really feel I will fit in well here. I'm looking forward to joining up with the squad in the new year and the season getting underway."

Miele will be joined by Stephen McPhail in the Shamrock Rovers squad next season after the veteran midfielder signed a new contract with the Dublin club.

Both McPhail and Miele will be part of the squad which will take on MLS Champions LA Galaxy on Saturday, 21 February.

The game will see LA Galaxy captain and Irish football legend Robbie Keane play in his hometown stadium.

Announcing the game, Shamrock Rovers chairman, Jonathan Roche said: "Shamrock Rovers are delighted to be playing host to LA Galaxy at Tallaght. We very much look forward to welcoming everyone from the club here, and particularly to welcoming Robbie Keane home.

"We know Robbie spends a lot of time in the area when he's home from the US, so I'm sure it will be great for him to finally play in Tallaght Stadium."
