Man-of-the-match Paul Stirling hailed Ireland's team effort as they recorded a famous win over the West Indies in the World Cup Pool B game in Nelson.
Ireland successfully chased a target of 305 this morning as Stirling (92), Ed Joyce (84) and Niall O'Brien (79 not out) contributed to a brilliant display with the bat.
A disciplined Irish bowling performance was under threat from a partnership between Lendl Simmons (102) and Darren Sammy (89) but Phil Simmons' side managed to come out on top with four wickets and just over four overs to spare.
Stirling told RTE Sport: "It's a great start to the competition and to get our first win. Moving forward now, we have got to go and beat UAE in 10 days.
"We came in here expecting to at least get into the quarter-final. It's a great start but we have a lot more to do and a lot more to improve on.
"We've been lacking in the first 10 overs of both innings. We managed to do that a lot better this time. Hopefully we can finish things off this time around.
"It's quite nice to win man-of-the-match. It's just a great team effort. I don't think I overly deserved. Joycey [Ed Joyce], the way he came in and played, he struck it really nice and had a strike-rate of over 100.
"It was up to us to score all the runs. We managed to do that. There was a little bit of a wobble at the end but it was all good by then. Hopefully we go on and win more than three matches in the group."
