No Nay Never enjoys Morny glory at Deauville

American raider No Nay Never stretched his 100% record to three with a classy performance in the Darley Prix Morny at Deauville.

Wesley Ward's speedy colt flew out of the stalls and was soon in command under David Flores.

The Norfolk Stakes winner, now running in the Coolmore colours, quickly shrugged off the attentions of Muharaaj and Jallota before seeing off the late bid of Vorda.

The Philippe Sogorb-trained filly was also defending an unbeaten record but she was behind early on after being slowly away.

She stayed on well but could not get in a blow at the impressive winner. Clive Brittain's Rizeena made strong late progress to take third place just ahead of the Mick Channon-trianed Jallota.

Ward said of his one-length winner: "That was great, I was so excited. The race went just as we had hoped it would.

"We don't have a plan yet. We will make a plan next week sometime.

"The horse will be back at home on Tuesday."

Brittain felt Rizeena would have been closer but for her tardy getaway.

"I was very pleased with the run. She would have been closer to the winner if she hadn't missed the break," said the veteran Newmarket handler.

"She stayed on very strong and hopefully the Moyglare could be on the cards for her next race. If it had been seven furlongs today she would have been done and dusted.

"She was out of the race early as she lost the advantage of the one draw. Then the jockey had to be patient with her, but she finished so strong.

"With a break from the one draw we would have been in the shadow of the winner."

Andre Fabre's Romantica took Group One honours for the first time with a hard-fought victory in the Darley Prix Jean Romanet.

A Group Two winner over course and distance last season, she was stepping back up to the highest level after disappointing in the Prix Vermeille last September.

Ridden confidently by Maxime Guyon, she survived a slight scare when Dalkala began to drift and took the eventual winner with her.

However, once in the clear Romantica was well on top and it was Dalkala's stablemate, Sarkiyla, who stayed on stoutly to claim second at the finish.

The winner is a Galileo filly out of the Breeders' Cup-winning mare Banks Hill who is currently in foal to New Approach.

Ed Dunlop's Joshua Tree was caught in the final few strides of the Darley Prix Kergolay by Verema who denied him back-to-back wins in the Group Two.

Having shown little since joining Dunlop from Marco Botti, the six-year-old bounced right back to his best in the hands of Ryan Moore.

Moore set a pedestrian gallop, with Henry II winner Gloomy Sunday and Ascot Gold Cup third Top Trip just behind.

As they turned into the straight, however, Moore had managed to maintain his slender advantage and time was running out for his rivals to catch him.

All the time Christophe Lemaire was looking confident on Alain de Royer-Dupre's Verema, though, and despite racing keen throughout the filly found a smart turn of foot and eventually won pretty comfortably.

The rest finished in a heap with Dance Moves, Hammerfest, Top Trip and Gloomy Sunday separated by inches.

Dunlop will be delighted with Joshua Tree and can begin to plan more raids abroad no doubt.

De Royer-Dupre told owner the Aga Khan's Studs twitter feed: "She has the potential to be a Group One filly and she may race abroad in the future."
